Who: Marilyn Monroe and playwright Arthur Miller

When: Two sets of nuptials were performed-- a civil ceremony on June 29, 1956 and a religious service on July 1, 1956.

Where: The first ceremony was held in the White Plains Court House in White Plains, New York and the second at the home of the groom's literary agent, Kay Brown in Katonah, New York.

The Ceremony: To further meld her life with that of her intended, the bride converted to Judaism before saying "I do" in a double ring ceremony. The bride, who had spent much of her childhood in foster homes and orphanages, was given away in marriage by renowned acting coach Lee Strasberg.

The Dress: As beige was one of the bride's favorite colors, the actress chose a flesh-colored dress for the religious ceremony, in contrast to the simple sweater and skirt donned for the court house nuptials. So her short veil would harmonize with the wedding ensemble, Marilyn dipped the fabric in brewed coffee.

The Honeymoon: Days after their union became official, the couple referred to as "The Egghead and The Hourglass" by the media flew to London for the commencement of filming on the fairytale romance "The Prince and The Showgirl." A proper getaway came in January 1957, when the couple celebrated the new year with sixteen sunsoaked days at a Jamaican villa.
