The Ceremony: A blind date at Hollywood's Villa Nova Restaurant eventually led to the couple's date with destiny, and over one hundred paparazzi lurked outside the chambers of Judge Charles Peery on that January afternoon, waiting to capture the first images of the sex symbol and "Joltin' Joe" as husband and wife. Only six witnesses, including the groom's brother, were present at the nuptials.

The Dress: Marilyn Monroe's sultry screen image had little in common with her own refined sense of style, and for her wedding the actress chose a demure dark brown suit embellished with an ermine collar and accented with a dainty corsage of white orchids. Sentimentality was the order of the day for the groom, who donned a navy blue business suit combined with a polka-dot tie he wore on the couple's first date.

The Ring: In the years following her untimely death, a missing baguette diamond from Marilyn's 35 diamond eternity wedding band seemed to symbolize the unfulfilled promise of the couple's love. The ring, which was sold in 1999 at a Christie's auction for $770,000, was one of the few pieces of extravagant jewelry in the estate of the woman who so famously sang "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend", and was a poignant reminder of the affection she still felt for the baseball hero. Although divorced, their friendship never waivered, and rumors still circulate that the pair were to wed again on August 8, 1962, which sadly turned out to be the date of her funeral. Broken-hearted, Joe DiMaggio never remarried, and for the next twenty years had roses delivered twice a week to the screen star's final resting place.
