Where: The groom was in a "New York State of Mind"
when he chose his home on Centre Island as the wedding locale.
The Ceremony: The five carat engagement ring that crooner
Billy Joel slipped on to his fiancee's finger during a vacation
to the Caribbean island of St. Barts was joined by a wedding
band at a lavish autumn ceremony held at the singer's fifteen-acre
estate on Centre Island.
Overcast skies were
unable to dampen the spirits of over one hundred guests, including
shock jock Howard Stern, former Eagles frontman Don Henley and
the groom's ex-wife, model Christie Brinkley.
The Dress: Oscar de la Renta designed a white, sleeveless
gown fashioned of Chantilly lace. The scalloped hemline accentuated
the bride's Jimmy Choo shoes, which were adorned with crystals
on the stiletto heels. A fifty carat diamond necklace completed
the elegant look.
To juxtapose the
bride's delicate attire, the famed fashion designer created
a black, strapless sheath for the bridesmaid, (the groom's daughter,
Alexa Ray), who carried a small nosegay of black roses for a
dramatic effect.
The groom opted
for a dark Ralph Lauren business suit paired with a black and
white striped tie.
The reception: The romantic melody "Moon River",
played for the newlyweds first dance, echoed in the white tent
erected for the occasion by wedding planner and co-author of
Weddings For Dummies, Marcy Blum. After dining on Italian-style
edibles and a chocolate-covered wedding cake, The Piano Man
took to the stage to entertain his guests with a number of fast-paced
tunes before launching into the Otis Redding classic, "Try
A Little Tenderness", which he dedicated to his new
bride.
