Vermont Marriage Regulations

Applications and/or Documents Required: Bring along original copies of the following (and be sure pack these in your hand luggage, never in your checked bags):

Photo ID such as Drivers License or passport

Certified Birth Certificate

If widowed, a certified copy of the death certificate

If divorced, a certified copy of the final divorce decree

You must also be prepared to supply the following information (most of which can be found on the birth certificate):

• Your legal town of residence
  
• Your place and date of birth
  
• Your parents’ names, including your mothers’ maiden name
  
• The states in which your parents were born
  

Residency Requirements: none, but please note the following:

• If neither of you are Vermont residents, the marriage license must be obtained from the county in which you are to be married
  
• If one or both of you is a state resident, the license must be obtained in the county of residence, but you may be married anywhere within the state.

Waiting Period: none

Blood Test: none

Cousin Marriages are legal in Vermont.

Civil Unions are legal in the state of Vermont.
