Rhode Island Marriage Licenses

Applications and/or Documents Required: Bring along original copies of the following (and be sure pack these in your hand luggage, never in your checked bags):

• Photo ID such as Drivers License or passport
  
• Certified Birth Certificates
  
• If previously married, provide a certified copy of the divorce decree, or death certificate if marriage ended due to death.

Special Considerations:

• Cousin Marriages are legal in Rhode Island, under the following conditions:
  
• A man cannot marry his aunt, but can marry his cousin.
  
• A woman may marry her uncle providing she is Jewish.
  

Please note:
Rhode Island law states that a marriage license is valid only in the city or town in which it was issued.

Witnesses: The solemnization of marriage must be in the presence of at least two witnesses (who have reached the age of majority), in addition to the officiant at the marriage.
