How to Get Married in Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago recently revised its long-standing laws on marriage. Today, visitors need only be in the country for three days before applying for the wedding license. To qualify for this special wedding license, both parties must be non-residents of Trinidad and Tobago.

Paperwork Requirements: You’ll need to show proof of residence (both passports and airline tickets), identification, (again, your passport), an original or notarized copy of "decree absolute" if divorced, original death certificate if widowed. All your documents must be in English or must be a notarized English translation. If you’ve changed your name, you’ll need to show a deed poll or other proof of the name change.

Cost: The marriage license costs TT$337.50 (US$55) which is payable in cash or in postage stamps obtainable from the General Post Office.

Obtaining Your Marriage License: In Trinidad, you’ll obtain the marriage license at the Registrar General’s Office, The Red House, Abercromby Street, Port of Spain (Tel. 868.623.24500). In Tobago, you can obtain the marriage license at the Registrar General’s Office, Jerningham Street, Scarborough (Tel. 868.639.3210) or at the Warden’s Office, IDC Mall, Scarborough, (Tel. 868.639.2410).
