How to Get Married in Sint Maarten (Dutch side) Dutch Sint Maarten recently changed its marriage regulations, permitting non-resident couples to exchange vows on the island. (For more than a century, non-resident marriages were prohibited.)Today, couples over 21 years of age must make a written request to the Lieutenant Governor to first obtain a temporary residency status not to exceed three months. The couples must also submit birth certificates, divorce papers (if applicable), and valid return or onward tickets. All of these documents must be translated into Dutch by an official sworn translator or a notary public. There are some special
regulations for divorcees: women must allow 306 days to pass after
the divorce decree is finalized before remarrying. The request should be mailed to the Lieutenant Governor, Government Administration Building, Clem Labegas Square, Philipsburg, Sint Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, fax 011.599.542.4884. Cost: The cost is about US$300 for all government and administrative costs. The price for the ceremony varies by day of the week: Tuesday through Thursday the cost is about US$102, on Friday US$113, and Saturday for approximately US$204. Waiting Period:
