How to Get Married in Ontario

If you are getting married in Ontario, you can have a civil marriage or a religious marriage.

Applications and/or Documents Required: Bring along original copies of the following (and be sure pack these in your hand luggage, never in your checked bags):

Certified Birth Certificate

Photo ID such as passport or Drivers License

A marriage license can be obtained from the clerk of most cities, townships, towns or villages (Marriage License Issuers).

In some cases, depending on the denomination, you may not need a marriage license. The marriage may be solemnized under the authority of the publication of banns.
