How to Get Married in the Islands of the Bahamas

Getting married in the Islands of the Bahamas is a simple task.

Marriage Regulations:

one of the parties must reside in the Islands of the Bahamas when the marriage application is made. (This requirement is easily waived.)

one of the parties must reside in the Islands of the Bahamas for one day prior to the marriage

if either party is divorced, the original final decree or a finalized copy of the divorce must be present to the Clerk of the Court

if either party is widowed, the original or notarized copy of the death certificate must be presented

parties under age 18 must have parental consent; US citizens under 18 must produce a declaration certifying this fact before the US Consul at the American Embassy in Nassau

Blood Test: No blood test is necessary.

Fees: The marriage license fee is US$100.

Waiting Period: 1 day

Obtaining Your Marriage License: Most larger hotels have wedding consultants on staff to help take care of paperwork or you can file directly with the office of the Registrar General in Nassau (weekdays 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.); Tel: (242) 322-3316, Fax: (242) 322-5553. When the license is granted, the commissioner’s office on the island where the marriage will take place is notified of the upcoming event.

If you are marrying on any island other than New Providence (where Nassau is located), you can get your Marriage License at the Commissioners’ Office on that island; you do not need to come to Nassau.

For More Information: If you have questions, contact the Tourism Office or call 888.NUPTIAL.
