The Destination Wedding Workbook

Okemo Mountain Resort
Ludlow, Vermont

by Lisa Matte

Tandem ski into your new life together after exchanging winter wedding vowsatop Okemo Mountain. The 3,344-foot peak offers breathtaking views of thesnow-covered Vermont countryside. Celebrating its 20th anniversary under the ownership of Tim and Diane Mueller, Okemo is a family-oriented ski resort making it the perfect setting for big family weddings. Gather the clan to witness your nuptials then celebrate your union among friends and family at any one of several mountainside venues.

Function facilities include Gables Restaurant with its cathedral ceiling and circular fireplace; Sugar House, a mid-mountain dining room with a wrap-around deck; and the Sitting Bull Lounge or Great Room, both located at the base lodge. But one of the best things about an Okemo wedding is that it can become a multi-day celebration. Slopeside lodging options include an assortment of condominiums (many with ski-in/ski-out access) ranging in size from one- to five-bedrooms. That means you (and your families if you're so inclined) can celebrate the first few days of your lifetime union skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing or criss-crossing Nordic trails on pristine snow-covered trails.

On the other hand, you can always send the clan packing right after the wedding, then cuddle up in a slopeside condo before roaring fire and raise a champagne toast to the start of your new life together as man and wife.
