Changing Your Name on Your Passport

continued from page 1

If you'll be getting married and changing your name, note that you can't get your passport in your new name until after your wedding.

Get your passport issued in your maiden name (and make sure the name on your airline tickets matches this name!) Once you have a certified copy of your marriage certificate, you can easily get your name changed on your passport.

Here's the process:

You'll need to send a completed form DS-19, Passport Amendment/Validation Application , http://www.travel.state.gov/pdf/DS-0019.pdf

Along with the application, you'll need to send in a certified copy of your marriage certificate or your name change court decree, and your current valid passport to the following address:

Charleston Passport Center
ATTN: Amendments
1269 Holland Street
Charleston, SC 29405

We always suggest that you send your passport in a way that can be tracked! That can mean a trackable USPS package or a private courier like FedEx or UPS...just make sure you hold onto that tracking number!
