Weddings at Avalon Reef Club,
Isla Mujeres
With its location on a private isle just connected
by bridge to Isla Mujeres, Avalon
Reef Club makes the perfect spot for a quiet wedding. Guests have
their choice of two wedding gazebos on property with beautiful sea backdrops,
ideal for bringing home wedding photos that will capture the magic of
your special day.
We recently visited Avalon Reef Club and had the chance to talk with Mónica
Cruz, Avalon Resorts Weddings Specialist. Mónica handles all the
wedding details at Avalon Reef Club (as well as in Avalon's Cancun properties)
and talked with Lovetripper about the ins and outs of setting up a wedding
on Isla Mujeres.
While religious weddings are beautiful and meaningful
to many guests, they are not legal in Mexico; only a legal, civil ceremony
makes the ceremony legal. For a legal wedding, what type of ceremony will
the couple have?
The legal ceremony is in Spanish; the religious ceremony
is in English. For legal ceremonies, I need to be in touch with the
couple at least one month before the date. I have to get on the judge's
schedule.
What types of religious ceremonies
can you do?
I can arrange Jewish ceremonies, candlelight ceremonies,
Christian ceremonies. I can also arrange church weddings.
What decorations are common for the
wedding site?
Chrysanthemums are typical decorations. Brides can send
me pictures of the bouquet they would like. Also stargazers and calla
lilies are popular. Pretty much any flower they want, if we have it
available, is possible.
Can you describe some unique weddings
you've arranged?
We always try to make the bride's dreams come true. We
had one wedding where, when the couple exchanged vows, they gave rings
to their children also.
Where are most of the Avalon brides
from?
Almost all our brides are from the United States.
What special benefits are there for
weddings which include a group?
Group discounts are from 10 rooms so we can give a better
price. For groups, we must have the final list at least two weeks before
the date.
Do many brides have a wedding rehearsal?
The rehearsal we can do but it is not very popular.
What arrangements do most couples
make for their reception?
Most receptions are at the beach with tiki torches. It
is very nice. On our three packages, a Mexican trio is included and
they play the wedding march. It is a very nice touch to add to the wedding.
What traditional music is often played
at local wedding receptions?
The Boleros, mellow romantic music, is very traditional
to play.
