FAQ: Questions About
Resorts
You'll find all types of resorts--from couples-only
to family-friendly. Ask these questions of your potential honeymoon resort
or of your travel agent when considering a resort!
Can we request a particular room or section of the property?
You might want a room far from the disco (or maybe the two of you are
party animals and want to be right by the action!) Some hotels do not
permit guests to pre-book a particular room but instead assign rooms on
a per come, per served type basis. Check with your hotel and see if you
can book a particular block or at least put in your request for a quiet
room, a room on a lower floor, etc.
Which is the quietest room block?
Which rooms are the most private?
What meal plans do you offer?
Hotels offer several types of meal plans:
o EP, European Plan. This is a room-only plan.
Youve paid for a place to sleep, but all meals, drinks, and recreation
are extra.
o MAP, Modified American Plan. Breakfast and dinner are included.
o AP, American Plan. All meals are included. This is not an all-inclusive
plan, however, since drinks and tips may not be included, and watersports
and any other kind of recreation are usually not part of the package
either.
o AI, All-inclusive. All activities, meals, drinks, transfers,
and tips are included in the price.
Do
you offer pick-up at the airport?
Some destinations do not allow hotels and resorts to pick up guests at
the airport (because of taxi unions.)
What is the cost for airport pick-up provided by the
hotel?
Some all-inclusives offer pick-up as part of the package but other hotels
may charge a fee for pick-up.
If the hotel doesnt provide airport pick-up, what
should we expect taxi fare to run?
Is a taxi the best way to reach the hotel/resort or
are there other options?
If we rent a car, how long is the drive from the airport?
Do you offer free parking?
Do any of your rooms have private plunge pools?
Some resorts, especially those in tropical climates catering to honeymooners,
offer private plunge pools in some rooms. Check with yours if this is
an amenity youd enjoy. If you plan on a little skinny dipping, though,
make sure that this is truly a private plunge pool; occasionally resorts
will have two rooms share a pool.
Do you have rooms with two-person Jacuzzi tubs or whirlpools?
private hot tubs?
Do you offer room service?
What hours is room service available?
Do you have rooms with more than one bath?
For couples planning a destination wedding, two baths can be a big treat
and a time saver.
Do rooms include an iron and ironing board?
If your room doesnt include an iron and ironing board, can you obtain
one from housekeeping? This is one item thats best left at home
if at all possible.
Can we walk out of our room and onto the beach or will
we need to take an elevator?
Walking straight from your room to the beach is a real luxury; you
wont need to worry about cover-ups, dripping suits, and looking
presentable in the elevator (or even the lobby!)
Is there a mini bar in our room?
Minibars can be a nice luxury (but also an expensive one). At a few all-inclusives,
youll find free minibars in the room; check with yours.
Is anything in the minibar complimentary?
Bottled water is free at some destinations; check before you break the
seal. And some all-inclusives offer free minibars!
What percentage of your guests are groups?
You dont want to get caught up in a large convention; big groups
can really change the atmosphere of a property.
Is there a childrens program?
If you have children and your honeymoon is a chance to blend your new
families, a supervised childrens program can be a great way for
the kids to have fun and for the two of you to enjoy some privacy. If
you arent traveling with kids, though, the presence of a childrens
program means that there will be kids on property (and, during the summer
months and winter holidays, there may be MANY kids). Decide if this will
interrupt your fun.
Is there an adults-only pool?
If you are staying at a family-friendly resort, see what special facilities
are available for adults such as a quiet pool. (You dont want to
get caught up in a game of Marco Polo while youre trying to enjoy
a little romantic poolside time.)
Is there an adults-only restaurant?
Some family-friendly resorts offer an adults-only restaurant (usually
the dress-up restaurant on property); others make the restaurant adults-only
during late evening hours.
Are all rooms air conditioned?
Dont assume that every hotel is air conditioned. If this is an important
feature to you, ask.
Does every room include a private bath?
Many European hotels offer rooms with shared baths.
