Honeymoon Activities for Your Trip

from How to Make Every Trip a Honeymoon

Imagine what an absolutely perfect day with your mate would be like. What would you do? What would you talk about? Set about making that fantasy a reality.

1001 Arabian Nights--your way. Tell your lover a bedtime story using elements of your vacation. Continue the tale for every night of your vacation.

Act out a scene from your favorite romantic movie.

After a day of sightseeing, give your lover a sensuous foot massage with scented oils.

Arrange a carriage ride.

Ask for a couples’ massage. Many hotel spas now offer massages a deux. You and your lover share the same room as two masseuses work out the kinks.

Ask your concierge where local couples go.

Prepare a treasure map of your resort. Leave it in your room—not in a bottle but tied to a bottle of your favorite beverage. The treasure at the end of the map? You, of course!

Ask your lover how you can be more romantic.

At historic sites, pretend you’re a couple from that time period and imagine what love was like during that time.

Be on your best manners.

Blow your lover a kiss across the restaurant or pool.

Bring a travel diary and record your special romantic getaway. Along with your text, add memorabilia: postcards, theater stubs, a leaf.

Brush your partner’s hair.

Buy a bouquet of flowers at the local florist to brighten up your hotel room.

Buy a kite and fly it together. Write your names across the kite and watch it soar!

Learn a love song in a foreign language and serenade your partner with the tune.

Have your fortunes told by a fortune teller.

Call the local radio station and ask them to dedicate a song to the two of you. Explain that you’re vacationers.

Carve your names in a mango.

Give each other butterfly kisses.

Learn to say “I Love You” in sign language and sign it to your lover across a crowded room.

Carve your names in a piece of driftwood then send it afloat.

Celebrate Valentine’s Day—even if it’s not.

Check into vow renewal packages at resorts and hotels and really feel like you’re on a second honeymoon! Without the legal requirements of a wedding, vow renewals are easy to arrange.

Compose a poem about your love and your destination.

Create your own vow renewal ceremony at your resort—just the two of you. Spend a few hours writing your vows then exchange them at sunset at the prettiest place you’ve seen on your trip.

Cuddle up together on a porch swing.

Don’t forget to mention that you’re vacationing honeymooners!

Don’t wear a watch.

Eat a piece of taffy—together. Each take an end and work your way to each other’s lips.

Find a hammock for two and spend an afternoon watching the sky slowly change.

Get a book to read together. Read silently or take turns, reading passages to each other.

Get married--again! You’ll need to do a little pre-trip planning for this one—call your resort and check on local marriage regulations and the paperwork you’ll need to carry.

Get matching henna tattoos to last a few weeks.

Get your caricatures or a portrait drawn.

Go for a swim in the hotel pool after everyone else has gone to sleep.

Go to a street fair.

Have a private dance in your room.

Have someone take your picture at every landmark.

Play Twister! Who knows what interesting positions you will wind up in?

Go to your local costume rental company and become your favorite romantic couple

Make up your own fairy tale with you and your partner as the hero and heroine.

You know that your love is written in the stars but just for fun have an astrological chart made to show your compatibility.

Feeling old-fashioned? Exchange locks of hair.

Have your own “bed in” a la John Lennon and Yoko Ono. You may not have the press the famous couple attracted during their Montréal event, but an extended time in bed together can bring a real honeymoon atmosphere to any trip. (Or go a step further a rent the actual suite at the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth!)

Hire an airplane to fly over with a personalized “I love you” banner.

In introductions, substitute “bride” and “groom” for “wife” and “husband”—no matter how long you’ve been married.

It’s never too late to carry your bride across the threshold!

Learn how to fold a towel into a swan to decorate your bed—many resorts can show you how.

Learn to hula or belly dance for your lover—or create your own style.

Long-time married couples: introduce each other as “my boyfriend” and “my girlfriend.”

Make a lei for your lover out of local blooms.

Create a paper fan to fan your partner.

Make a resolution that you’ll spend your trip doing what the two of you want to do—not what you feel you should do.

Make a toast to your trip.

Make out in the backseat of a taxi.

Make time to watch every sunset during your vacation. Kiss when the last slier of sun sinks below the horizon.

Memorize a love poem to recite to your partner.

Paint each other’s toenails.

Pick out a sidewalk cafe to become “our place.”

Play hooky on the day of the first snowfall. Head off on a trip together to enjoy the moment.

Propose to your partner—even if you’re already married. Go all out—pick a special night on your trip and do it the way you wish you had the first time.

Purchase a package from your resort so chilled champagne and fresh fruit basket await you on arrival.

Put out the do not disturb sign.

Read each other’s palms—especially the love line.

Go to the races together. Bet on your honey’s favorite.

Rendezvous in the hotel bar. Pretend you’ve just met.

See how long you can hold each other’s gaze.

See how long you can hold hands without letting go.

See if your destination has a drive-in movie!

See if your hotel or resort offers in-room massages.

See if your hotel spa offers a couple’s massage course.

See if your resort offers a private island experience. Many can take the two of you to a private key or a secluded back with a cooler and some towels for a day of secluded romance.

Select a cocktail and make it “yours.” Every night during the trip, order your special drink.

Send out a message in a bottle on your next seaside getaway.

Shave each other—or at least lather up each other.

Shower together.

Sing to each other at a karaoke bar.

Sleep on your hotel balcony.

Sneak a kiss in a quiet museum corner.

Speak to each other in a whisper.

Spend one day thinking only positive thoughts.

Start a healthy habit for each other on your trip. Kick your smoking habit as a present for your mate. Eat healthy. Resolve to exercise—and do it now!

Start your own holiday travel traditions, regardless of the holiday. Maybe the two of you might always visit a B&B for Valentine’s Day, a favorite restaurant on your birthday, or a cruise at the spring equinox!

Surprise your lover with coffee from the lobby.

Take a carriage ride—after dark. Snuggle beneath the blanket to stay warm!

Take a hot air balloon ride at sunrise.

Take a mixology class offered by many tropical resorts

Take an exercise class together if your resort offers it.

Take part together in a resort talent show.

Take turns slowly brushing each other’s hair.

Take your lover to a comedy club. Nothing is more conducive to love than laughing together.

Tell each other spooky stories.

The Greeks say if you sprinkle petals of roses (because the flower was sacred to Aphrodite, goddess of love), you’ll attract a lover to your bed.

You don’t have to be vacationing in Greece to try this one!

Toss coins in a fountain and wish for your eternal happiness.

Treat her like a queen.

Treat him like a king.

Try to draw a picture of your partner.

Use a house phone to call your room. Leave a sexy message for your partner.

Vary your routine. Stay up all night. Have dinner at midnight.

Visit a haunted house.

Visit a planetarium.

Wake up your partner with a song from you instead of the clock radio.

Wake your mate up to watch the sunrise.

Wash each other’s hair.

Leave a sexy note on the bathroom mirror in red lipstick.

Watch a street performer.

Wear matching clothes.

Write a poem that includes both your names and the destinations.

Write “Just Married” on your back windshield.

You can’t always leave your worries at home, but you can leave them out of your conversation. Concentrate on each other and the positive aspects of your relationship.

Show your love by doing some activity our partner likes but you don’t—whether it’s a ballgame or an afternoon of shopping.
