Requirements for Getting Married on Nevis
- Both parties must reside in the country for two full
working days before the ceremony.
- Both parties must have either a valid passport or birth
certificate with photo identification.
- If either is divorced, a Decree Absolute must be presented.
If documents are not in English, they must be accompanied by a notarized
translation.
- If either party is a widow or widower, they must have
a copy of the death certificate of the deceased spouse.
- If applicants have never been married, an affidavit
is required which can be obtained from a Notary Public in their own
country or in Nevis at a cost of EC $50 or US $20
- If an Anglican or other minister of religion is to perform
the ceremony, a letter must come from the couples resident minister
verifying that they are known and unmarried.
- If the ceremony is to be performed by a Catholic priest,
it must take place in a Catholic Church, and a letter must come from
the couples resident priest verifying that they are known and
unmarried and have received the necessary instructions.
Marriage licenses are obtained through the Legal Department,
Administration Building, Charlestown, Nevis. The cost is EC $200 or US

Applications forms must be completed in the presence of
a Justice of the Peace in Nevis.
