Whether you take the walking tour, or enjoy the relaxing environment of a bed & breakfast, you're bound to fall in love with our history. Each of these beautiful homes is located in the beautiful Scenic City, whether on top of a mountain or tucked away in the valley. Their history speaks for itself, but we invite you to experience it for yourself. The Adams Hilborne Mansion, Inn & Restaurant is the cornerstone of the Fort Wood District neighborhood. This National Register Mayor's Mansion, with its 16-foot coffered ceilings and majestic moldings is now an elegant bed and breakfast. Built in 1889, this mansion welcomes guests today with its old world charm and hospitality in a tree-shaded setting rich with Civil War history and turn-of-the-century architecture. The soft patina of hand-cut stained and beveled glass, burnished inlaid floors, and decorative wooden moldings were hand-hew by nineteenth-century artisans from the 1800's. The Alford House Bed & Breakfast is another exquisite home dating back to the mid 1900's. Inside this 17-room 1942 home, you'll find antique furnishings and many collections. The Bluff View Inn, located in the Bluff View Art District, is composed of three turn-of-the-century homes. The Maclellan House, which dates back to the late 1800's, is decorated with one-of-a-kind heirloom furnishings from the only two families who lived in the home. The T.C. Thompson House, a 1908 structure, is the original residence of former Mayor Thompson. Finally, the stretched portico and spacious veranda of the C.G. Martin House is the 1927 Colonial Revival mansion which was the residence of Cyrus Griffin and Rosalind Martin. The Inn is tucked neatly atop the tall stone cliffs of the Tennessee River in a creative haven of delightful restaurants, shops, and museums. Fort Oglethorpe, a small town in Georgia built shortly after the Civil War, was home to the 6th Cavalry and was considered an elite Cavalry post. From here, men moved west to serve settlers as a mobile police force, but it was also known throughout the region for its polo matches and fox hunts. Today, Captain's Quarters Bed & Breakfast Inn is a beautifully renovated Classic Revival Home built in 1902 by the Army, when Fort Oglethorpe was established. Painted in pale gray with brilliant white trim, the front faces an open green that was once the Parade Ground. Stroll through the newly refurbished common areas exposing beautiful wood flooring, sit in the library or parlour and enjoy the family antiques that decorate the rooms, including a magnificent 1878 Steinway piano. One of Chickamauga's most valued landmarks is the Gordon-Lee Mansion, which was used as a headquarters during the Civil War. Once a 2,500-acre plantation, the mansion is now a beautiful bed and breakfast decorated with period furnishings and historical relics. Built in 1847, the Gordon Lee Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Civil War Trust Discovery Trail. Step back in time, to another place, another way of life, and you'll find yourself at Historic Falcon Manor. This romantic bed & breakfast was recently honored with the 1997 Great American Home award. In 1896, entrepreneur Clay Faulkner told his wife Mary that he would build her "the finest mansion in the region" if she would move next to their woolen mill, 2-1/2 miles from downtown McMinnville. She agreed, and Falcon Manor is the testament of his fulfilled promise to her. The Pettit House Bed & Breakfast, located just two miles from the heart of Downtown Chattanooga, was built in 1900 at the foot of historic Lookout Mountain.
