South Woodstock, Vermont, USA
Describe your most romantic room. A romantic room has a queen canopy bed, wood burning fireplace, jacuzzi for two in tub, large windows dressed with heirloom linens that overlook country roads. Outside, you will often see people riding by in carriages or on horseback. Pretend you are a couple visiting your property for the first time. What would you plan for your special weekend? My special weekend would include a fireplace room with jacuzzi. The day would begin with the full country breakfast, then enjoy a stroll along the country roads, and walking Woodstock, "Americaës prettiest small town". Later you could enjoy a secluded carriage ride, horseback ride or a sleigh ride in winter. During the summer sit by our pond and relax in the sun. In winter, cross country or downhill ski. To end the perfect day, enjoy a romantic, candlelit dinner in our award winning dining room. Sample a wine youíve never tried before from over 125 choices. After dinner, stroll around our pond and enjoy the stars. What the best time of year to visit your property? Visiting the Kedron Valley Inn is beautiful anytime of the year. In summer, enjoy a relaxing day by our two acre swimming pond or a stroll along the country roads. In fall, enjoy the radiant fall colors with a walk, carriage or horseback ride; or even walk Mt. Tom to see a breath-taking overlook of the Woodstock countryside. Winter is a serene time for a sleigh ride through the woods. Or enjoy the crisp air by cross-country or downhill skiing. What are some of the most unique aspects of The Kedron Valley Inn? The Kedron Valley Inn was an active stop on the underground railroad during the Civil War era. Room 24 in the Tavern Building is where runaway slaves were frequently hidden. The attic space, now occupied by the bedroom, was undiscovered for years and accessible only by a small secret stairway behind a fake wall. Now the room as a wood-burning fireplace, queen canopy bed and a private deck overlooking the whole property. The Inn was also a regular stop during the 1800's for stagecoach runs from "down-country" to Canada. In Room 19, in Tavern Building, still has the large walk-in safe for storing valuables.
