Sport of the Elite

Beside this wave washed private beach, is a modern spectacle the elite flock to play upon.Here, on an undulating expanse of emerald green, men and women use thin sticks with duck-shaped heads to knock round white balls into 18 special holes placed strategically throughout the greens. They call this magnificent course, "The Pebble Beach of Baja" and it was designed by a man who had a vision of this natural paradise long before I dreamed of it. His name is Jack Nicklaus. The village elders say that this Nicklaus Signature Course is a par 72, 7,100-yard design. And Nicklaus himself has called the final three holes, "the finest finishing holes in all of golf."

One Day

One day, I will allow one of the experts who teach this sport to instruct me in this royal game. But I will not amuse myself with the young princes and princesses that splash about and play water volleyball and other games in one of the pristine pools that overlook the sea. In my dream I am older than they are. But I do know, when I am married and have young princes and princesses of my own, that here in my lovely village, Hacienda Del Mar, my children will be busy, well looked after, and happy -- as I am. They too, will play and laugh on the paths that meander among the low-rise buildings, painted in brilliant grape and orange -- colors tipico of the haciendas of the wealthy Mexican elite located far away on mainland Mexico. They too, can enjoy my village dream of shadows and shade, sunlight and warmth, beside the sapphire and pearl colored Sea of Cortez at Hacienda Del Mar.

Some Land's End Things to Do

Whale Watching: January to March is whale watching time, when some 10,000 grey whales journey from the Northern Pacific to the Sea of Cortez. The whales can be viewed from shore, or on half-day boat excursions.

Fishing

Los Cabos is the big game fishing capital of the world, and home to the October Bisbee Black & Blue tournament. More than 40,000 marlin and swordfish are caught and released here each year.
